Leaf Cookies
Ingredients: cookie dough, leaf cookie cutters, frosting in orange, yellow, and brownProcedure: The cookie dough in the refrigerated case at the grocery store works great for this or you may want the orange colored dough by Pillsbury. Roll out the cookies and press with the cookie leaf cutters. Bake and then allow the cookies to cool. Let your child help decorate. This
type of activity helps them develop and strengthen their small motor skills. For more fun add sprinkles or any other fall decorations to the cookies.
Chocolate-Caramel Apples
Ingredients: 6 popsicle sticks, 6 medium apples, 1/2 cup chopped nuts, 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips, 2 tablespoons water
1 package (14 oz) caramel candiesProcedure: Insert popsicle stick in stem end of each apple. Divide nuts into 6 mounds on waxed paper.
Heat chocolate chips, water, and candies over low heat, stirring occasionally until candies are melted and mixture is smooth. Keep mixture over very low heat. Dip each apple into chocolate mixture, spooning mixture over apple until completely coated. (If chocolate mixture hardens while coating apples, heat over low heat.) Place each on mound of nuts; sprinkle loose nuts on top of apple around popsicle stick.
Popping Indian Corn
Ingredients: brown paper bag, dish of water, indian corn, microwaveProcedure: Place the indian corn cobs into a brown paper bag. Put both the bag of corn and the bowl of water into a microwave oven. Microwave on high for 3-5 minutes. The corn will pop and remain on the cob.
Toasted Pumpkin Seeds
Ingredients: 2 cups pumpkin seeds, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 3 tablespoosn melted margarine, 1 teaspoon saltProcedure: Rinse pumpkin seeds until all the pulp and strings are washed off. In a medium bowl, combine the Worcestershire sauce, melted margarine, and salt. Add the seeds and stir until they are all coated. Spread on baking sheet and bake at 225º for one to two hours, until crisp. Stir frequently to prevent scorching.
Apple Pizza
Ingrediants: refrigerated pizza dough, canned apple pie filling, brown sugar, ice cream if desiredProcedure: Follow the directions for making a pizza crust on the package. Spread about a 1/2 inch layer of the apple pie filling onto the dough. Sprinkle with the brown sugar. Bake according to directions on the container.
Apples Pancakes
Ingrediants: Pancake batter of choice, chopped apples, cinnamon, melt butter, brown sugar, cinnamonProcedure: Mix the pancake batter according to package direction and add chopped apples and cinnamon to the batter. Cook as directed on package. Melt the butter and stir in brown sugar and cinnamon. Pour the butter mixture on top of the pancakes instead of syrup.
